970 AD: The army of Asgard, led by King Odin defeated the Frost Giants and took the Casket, the source of their power. Years later, Odin’s elder son Thor was proclaimed to be the heir of the throne but the ceremony was interrupted by the Giants’ intrusion to steal the Casket. Thor decided to go to Jotunheim, the Giant’s realm to challenge Laufey without his father’s consent. Putting his own life and those of his friends and brother, Thor was banished on earth where he will learn what it takes to be a great King like his father. Meanwhile, his brother Loki is planning to seize the throne.
Tom Hiddleston/Loki |
An excellent action flick: that is the first thing coming to my mind when I got out . Sometimes I think we are lucky to benefit from what technology can deliver (except maybe the futile 3D): the Tron Legacy-like set design of Asgard was particularly fabulous!!! It looks more like a futuristic world than a 970 AD landscape but hey, it’s Marvel and it’s fantastic. Now let’s talk about the cast and crew. Kenneth Branagh was the last person I would have picked to direct a movie like this as I thought Shakespeare was one thing and Marvel was another but I was obviously mistaken: they could be related. Tom Hiddleston as Loki was a perfect choice, he almost stole the show from the hero; Chris Hemsworth is now a name to be remembered as he’ll come back in The Avengers. Finally (SPOILER), the patient ones will be rewarded with Nick Fury’s appearance for the Avengers Initiative.
